Rep. James Gillway

James Gillway is the State Representative for House District 98, which includes Winterport, Frankfort, Searsport and Swanville in Waldo County. He lives in Searsport with his wife of 28 years, Bobbie Jo. They have three adult children and one grandchild.

Rep. Gillway began his legislative career by pulling double-duty on the Transportation Committee and the State and Local Government Committee during the 125th Legislature. He has been appointed to serve on the Transportation Committee in the 126th, 127th and 128th Legislature.

He holds an Associates degree in Legal Systems from the University of Maine.

Currently the Searsport Town Manager, Rep. Gillway was previously the town’s police chief. He is also an international police advisor.

Rep. Gillway’s personal interests include camping, fishing, hunting, repairing old vehicles, woodworking, and riding motorcycles.

LD 1277: An Act To Establish a Magnet School for Marine Science, Technology, Transportation and Engineering

This established the Maine School for Marine Science, Technology, Transportation and Engineering as a public magnet school for the purpose of providing certain high-achieving high school students with a challenging educational experience. The school will be located in the Town of Searsport and will serve students from throughout the State. Students from other states and countries may attend on a space-available basis. The bill also corrects a cross-reference.

LD 491: An Act To Lower from 70 to 65 the Age at Which a Person May Obtain a Lobster and Crab Fishing License for a Reduced Fee

LD 855: An Act To Allow Grocery Stores under 10,000 Square Feet To Be Open on Sundays

  1. Dear Representative Gillway I am asking you in no uncertain terms to vote YES on the appeal of Rep.Tuell’s “NO COMMON CORE MAINE” bill on Nov.19th.
    This is another sick attempt by the corrupt Federal Government to impose it’s sick will on Mainers. Do it.

  2. Good morning, Do you have any results posted or available on yesterdays vote against the “Common Core” bill? Maybe you can explain how I can access the the Legislatures vote results. Did Mr. Gillway vote against the bill? Hope he did.

    • Rep. Tuell’s bill, LR: 2352 “An Act To Facilitate Homegrown Education in Maine” passed through the Legislative Council and will be considered by the Maine Legislature during the upcoming session.

  3. Mr. Gillway, We do not need additional law enforcement agents to fight illegal drugs here in Maine. Our great Maine police force can more than handle this problem. Save the money. We need more solid Conservative judges on the bench. They will jail these people and keep them there. The implementation of Liberalism into American courts,and our culture,is destroying us.
