Public Hearing on LD 1231 scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 @ 1:00 p.m.
STATEHOUSE – Rep. Jeff Hanley (R-Pittston) is alerting the public to a proposed new carbon tax on all fuels sold in Maine. LD 1231 – “An Act To Fund Energy Efficiency Programs through a Fee on the Sale of Unregulated Heating Fuels,” introduced by nine Democrats, imposes “a new fee [tax] of 1% on the wholesale sale price of heating oil, propane, coal, kerosene and dyed diesel fuel that is intended for residential or commercial heating purposes.”
“This bill proposes to put a tax on every fuel sold in Maine,” said Rep. Hanley. “It will increase costs for every individual, family and business in Maine. It is one of many proposals that will slow the economy and make it harder for people to live and work here.”
Maine citizens concerned about this issue are encouraged to testify at a Public Hearing before the Legislature’s Committee on Energy Utilities and Technology:
Wednesday, April 3, 2019 @ 1:00 PM – Cross Building, Room 211
