Bill to require voters be citizens to be heard!

Public Hearing on LD 186 scheduled for Monday, March 11 @ 10:00 a.m.

STATEHOUSE – Rep. Billy Bob Faulkingham (R-Winter Harbor) has introduced legislation to require that only a person who is a citizen of the United States may vote in a state, county or municipal or other local elections. LD 186 – RESOLUTION, Proposing an Amendment to the Constitution of Maine To Specify the Qualifications of Electors will allow Maine voters to prevent non-citizens from voting in Maine elections at the state, county, municipal and other local elections.

The bill is a response to recent efforts to allow noncitizens to vote in the City of Portland and other parts of the country. Since it proposes to amend the Maine Constitutional, it would require a statewide ballot question for Maine voters before taking effect.

Maine citizens concerned about issue are encouraged to testify at a Public Hearing before the Legislature’s Veterans and Legal Affairs Committee:

Monday, March 11, 2019 10:00 AM, State House, Room 437
