Recount Confirms Matt Harrington Wins District 19 House Seat

Augusta – After further scrutiny and a thorough recounting of the ballots from the special election held on November 3 in Sanford, Matt Harrington was confirmed as the winner of the race by a margin of 13 votes. The recount was held Friday at the Department of Public Safety in Augusta.

“I am honored to represent the people of Sanford,” said Rep. Matt Harington (R) Springvale. “This was a team effort from start to finish and now that the election is over I’m ready to get to work. House Republicans have led the way on a number of initiatives but we still have a lot of work to do to get Maine on the right path.”

“Matt Harrington is a welcome addition to the House Republican team and the people of Sanford are fortunate to have him representing them in the Maine Legislature,” said House Republican Leader Rep. Fredette of Newport. “Last Tuesday was more proof that the people of Maine are on board with the reforming state government and that is why they sent Rep. Harrington to Augusta. Whether it’s the welfare reform, tax reform or simply making government more efficient, the Maine people are sending the message that the status quo is no longer acceptable.”

“House Republicans commend Jean Noon who ran a good, fair and competitive race. Our thoughts and prayers remain with her and the entire Noon family as they grieve the loss of former Rep. Bill Noon,” said Assistant House Republican Leader Rep. Ellie Espling of New Gloucester.

“We are all thrilled to add Matt Harrington to our team,” Rep. Espling continued. “We know Rep. Harrington will bring the same commitment, dedication and work ethic to the Maine Legislature that he has brought to his career in law enforcement and public safety where he has served and protected the people of his community for more than a decade.”
